On Thursday 26th January 2017, the Year 9 Options Evening took place.
During the evening, options routes and choices were discussed with the students and option handbooks were handed out, detailing every course being offered in 2017. Teaching staff and more importantly, current students studying GCSE courses, were available for the Year 9 students to speak to. The current Year 11 students provided crucial information on how important it was when they made their subject choices and what GCSE coursework and examinations they are now working towards.
The students and their parents thoroughly enjoyed the evening and there was a real feeling of nervous excitement in the air as the students left with a real understanding of what GCSE options are on offer to them and where their choices can take them in the not-so-distant future.
For additional information, the National Careers Service is a good place to look for inspiration on KS4 courses and beyond. They offer a wealth of information regarding careers, education and pathways. Students can log on and take quizzes to help better understand how their current skill set could be used in certain industries. Progression of learning through to degree level can be ascertained and what jobs and salaries are likely to be available at the end of their education.

The video presentation below was shared and gave students some “steps to success” to follow after the evening. The deadline for all Options forms is Monday 30th January.
