PE News

Mr T RobinsonNews

Whilst we are all eagerly awaiting the development of the new Sports Centre and all of the opportunities this will offer us in regards to PE and Sport, we are not standing still and the students have made a really positive start to the new school year.

The extra-curricular focus for the boys this term has been Football with Years 7-10 entered into a league with Avon Valley College, John Hanson Community School, The Stonehenge School and Wellington Academy. With football training taking place on a Monday and games on a Tuesday the boys have been able to compete against each other and some strong opposition. In every game played every player has undoubtedly given their all, working hard for the team and the school. Although positive results have been a challenge to come by, this has not been due to a lack of effort, character and commitment. The Year 11 boys were entered into the County Cup, after reaching the semi-final of their league competition last year, but despite a strong performance (in some challenging and windy conditions) their competition came to an end. They, alongside the Year 7-10 teams will have their final games in the New Year.

The extra-curricular focus for the girls this term has been Netball where league games are played as a 4-way tie resulting in up to 3 games at each fixture between Pewsey Vale School, Avon Valley College, St. John’s Marlborough and The Stonehenge School. As the season has progressed every squad has been able to grow in number resulting in larger teams being able to be taken to the fixtures. The desire to improve in each game is visible to see and although achieving the victories are proving a tough task, with each game played and fixture attended the teams have grown in confidence and strengthened in their skill and game-play. Alongside the league fixtures the Year 7 girls took part in the Area Netball day where they received additional opportunities to develop their skills and compete in a tournament, and the latest set of results for Netball have confirmed that the Year 8 Netball team have finished second in their league.
